GIZ. 2013. Understanding Climate Finance Readiness Needs in Namibia

Description:

Understanding Climate Finance Readiness Needs in Namibia.

Summary / Notes:

Supporting processes that enhance the access, allocationrnand spending of climate finance in developing countries, isrnbeing increasingly appreciated by the international community. The Green Climate Fund’s (GCF) Governing Instrument envisages support for such climate finance readiness activities, and a number of bilateral and multilateral initiatives are being developed to provide resources to this end. This programme of work to explore climate finance readiness needs in Namibia, Zambia and Tanzania, is therefore timely. A collaborative and iterative approach was taken to first distil the core components of climate finance readiness, and second, to engage with key state and non-state actors in order to both identify and build consensus on the practical activities that could strengthen readiness to use climate finance effectively in each country. The climate finance readiness needs assessment for Namibia is being undertaken by the Overseas Development Institute (ODI),rnAfrican Climate Finance Hub (ACFH), and World ResourcesrnInstitute (WRI) working in close collaboration with thernDeutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeitrn(GIZ), with the support of the German Federal Ministry forrnEconomic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).
